Liz Grimshaw, DVM – Endurance/Trail Rep
My name is Liz Grimshaw, DVM and I am a small animal veterinarian who lives in Evergreen, Colorado. I am originally from the east coast and grew up in Florida. As I was growing up I took many years of dressage lessons and did low level showing. In 2009 I moved to North Carolina and started veterinary school. The first year of school I purchased a yearling Morgan to begin slowly training. During vet school I was introduced to endurance riding by a professor and began slowly training and conditioning my Morgan, Mia, to this activity (with a basis in Dressage, of course).
Mia has a long back and her issues with different saddles, including a custom made saddle, started me on the hunt to find the perfect saddle. Despite having had professional fittings and custom made saddles Mia was never happy with a saddle for very long. I began to look into treeless saddles as a way to keep Mia comfortable and happy over many miles with her ever changing and painful back.
Over the years I have slowly increased my knowledge and experience and now share my home with two Arabians as well as the Morgan I started with. They are all vastly different in their competitive nature and saddle fit.
Cricket, my current main competition horse, is an Arabian who has extremely thin skin and strong opinions about everything. Cricket is a very large mover despite being 14.2 hands and she has a huge competitive drive. She has taken a lot of effort to find her perfect tack fit, but she adores her Freeform saddle! Cricket and I completed our first 100 mile ride last year in great form, her back was always perfect and I was surprisingly comfortable even after approximately 20 hours in the saddle.
As a vet my goal is always to improve any animal’s quality of life and decrease their pain. With high functioning and extremely athletic horses working at the upper limits of their abilities this becomes crucial to maintaining their happiness as well as that of their rider. I’m excited to be a Freeform rep and help improve horse and rider communication through great saddle fitting!
