The Story of Thomas

Paulita Neff endurance rides, trail riding May 23, 2012

My New Horse Thomas

With all my horse issues in the past year, I’ve been looking for a new endurance horse.  I’ve contacted lots of folks and put the word out in every way possible.  I’ve prayed and sent my request out into the universe.   I’ve sent out positive vibes in hopes that I will find a partner to share the many miles ahead. A very close friend of mine, Hope, once said: “Put it out there and wait to see what comes back.” Well, I did…. and Thomas found his way to me.

Another friend started looking last fall for an endurance horse. I had started asking around for him.  Another friend Amy returned my email with several horses she had for sale.  Thomas was one of hers.  I fell in love with him the first time I saw him… than read into his AERC record and loved him even more.  He is very easy to handle and is 10 yrs old.  JUST WHAT I’M LOOKING FOR!  But being the person I am, I offered him to my friend who was in need of a horse.  (I have 3 horses now, all with issues so I can’t compete them anymore.)  We all took off for North Carolina for the weekend to meet Amy, Mike and their horses.  Wow – Thomas was even better in person.  My friend bought him.  I was so happy for him and Thomas. Also I thought I might get to ride him sometime, too.

As time went by my friend didn’t have the time to put into riding endurance,. He had some trailer issues, and he injured his back pulling a calf. One day while we were riding at my home, Thomas decided not to go back into the trailer.  Nice.  Now he needs to stay here.  So in the field he went with my other grays. There is nothing prettier than a field of gray Arabs.  For the next few weeks I worked with him, riding and loading.  I told him “if you want to stay with me you will need to get in the trailer.”  Funny thing, he did, all by himself.  I just let him be, and he got in.  He is truly a magical horse, and I’m so lucky to have him in my life. It’s so crazy how he just ended up in my field.  What a wonderful horse.  I’m so lucky to have him in my life.

Hope to see you out on the trail or endurance rides this year with Thomas.

“I'm in love with the Ultimate Trail saddle and what it's done for my horse!

I had gone looking for an alternative to my bespoke County saddle when my horse Blanco finally started coming back into work after a long bout of lameness. That’s when I discovered the treeless saddle & after much research contacted Paulita. We talked about what I wanted and what Blanco needed.

We've never been happier. I’ve had the Ultimate Trail saddle and Freeform pad for a year now. We’ve come so far. Blanco’s back is still changing, but through it all the saddle has fit both of us perfectly.”

“Just wanted to give you a little Svenna update- she has changed SO MUCH since I bought the Freeform. Her back looks incredible. Really, her whole body has muscled up properly because she can get over the back and really work.

"I love riding in it (more balanced than my $4000 custom saddle ever was), although it probably took a solid two or three months to get the panels and stirrups placed juuuust right. Now it's absolutely perfect. Svenna loves it, too. She moves out great in it.

"I ended up putting the panels pretty far back and with a very wide spinal channel. It is super balanced and stable on her very round back - I can even get on from the ground if I absolutely have to. I also like how the front part of the panel fills in under my knee; it makes the saddle fit me a bit better and more securely. It took a lot of fussing to figure out this arrangement, I tried lots of different pads and panel placements, but I'm very happy with the result. Her sweat marks have also been great with this arrangement." READ THE WHOLE STORY..”
