Choosing the Correct Seat Size for the Classic Trail Saddle
The primary consideration for the rider of a treeless saddle is the seat size.
** PLEASE NOTE: This new Trail seat does NOT run in a normal sizing. Sizing is based on rider height and weight. Please call us at 540-271-4577 for sizing assistance.
The Classic Trail saddle is available in seat size 16.5” – 20”.
If you are in a 17, you will need to bump up to a 18. For instance, I’m 5’6” and 145 (most of the time) I ride comfortably in a 18 Ultimate trail seat. Usually I would be in a 17 or 17.5”.
Having struggled to find a saddle to suit my mare, a friend recommended Freeform Saddles and told me how helpful Paulita at Saddle Up was when she bought her saddle. She was right! The saddle works very well on my mare Chic. She has a dislike of the points on treed saddles and she finds the Freeform very comfortable. No chomping on her bit or tail swishing! Other saddles have slipped forward as I ride in them, but this saddle stays in place. Chic is short backed so needed the short base, which is just right. Altogether I couldn't be more pleased with the saddle and with the help I have had from Paulita. Thank you Paulita and Saddle Up!
I have the Ultimate Trail seat (AKA, Happy Ass) on a DKR base (knee rolls for added security on steep trails and green horses). It's very comfortable and seems to work well on all 6 horses I've ridden in it so far. Only reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is that it did require some break-in time.
